The average mid-range Gaming PC will likely last:
between
6.3
and
8.5
years
Based on what...?: The numbers above represent our best estimate for how long a new Gaming PC will be able to keep up with newly released games. (This estimate assumes the PC is built using a mid range CPU and GPU).
Dataset analyzed: For any given year we took the average of all CPU's released and combined both clock speed and number of cores to determine the mid-range `processing_score` that year. The same was done for the minimum system requirements across all games (from indie to AAA) to come up with a `min_processing_score_req`. Similarly this same process was used for GPU's, where the average VRAM/memory was used to compare available mid range GPU's performance against what games recommended.
The final estimate is then calculated using a combined weighted average of both the GPU and CPU.
